"Indigenize Your Eyes" is a participatory photography project intended to raise awareness of the history and current status of American Indians in Boulder, Colorado.

I was awarded a Community Projects Grant by the City of Boulder’s Art Commission which helped to bring notable indigenous photographer Josue Rivas to Boulder to teach photography and storytelling skills to a group of Boulder's native youth. In doing so, we are working to elevate the voices of all our city’s indigenous people (among the most marginalized communities in our population).

This project is specifically designed to empower indigenous youth and amplify the voices of our indigenous community through art. We are nurturing and encouraging their artistic expression, and they have shared their experiences and portraits of our local American Indians with Boulder's general public.

This project was launched through a series of photo exhibits and events during the month of October, 2018. We will showcase more of our students’ work during Indigenous Peoples Day in Boulder in October, 2019 at the Museum of Boulder.
